a Bite of the apple

In the autumn of 1982 a phone call from Advanced Alternative Media of New York led to the first small tour of the East Coast of America for the band.  They jumped at the chance and upon their arrival in NYC they were amazed to hear their tracks played on college radio and in clubs such as Danceteria, the Peppermint Lounge, the Ritz and the Mudd Club.  This initial tour would turn out be the first of 12 visits over the following 7 years.  The opportunity had arisen through Aberdeen independent label Oily's singles being imported to the USA, with Shoot You Down featuring as a favourite with many Rockpool DJ's including Mark Fotiadis, Ivan Ivan, Matt Pinfield and Bruce Ciccone .They loved to keep people dancing and if they were fortunate enough to have two copies of the rare single to mix, so much the better.  Good times.

On their first tours apb travelled the East Coast in the Candy and Nuts van. This shot taken in Portland Maine - - where it broke down. On a later trip the band spotted Depeche Mode using the same van in Manhattan
